Micromax Canvas DOODLE 3 Unboxing

Micromax already had a 6 inch phablet, Canvas Xl selling for 13,000 INR or in the same segment as doodle 2. With Doodle 3, Micromax could have opted for a 6 Inch octa core MT6592 phablet priced above 15K, but Micromax has targeted the low priced dual core market, similar to the first tablet in Doodle series, with the new Doodle 3. Are the things back to where they started? Let’s take a look.
You won’t find many large display phablets below 10k range. The phone will compete with likes of Zync Z605, Gionee GPad G3, Karbonn Titanium S9 and Micromax Canvas XL
CAMERA AND STORAGE
The primary camera included in Doodle 3 phablet has a 5 MP sensor similar to most other MT6572 smartphones in budget Android segment. The camera is also supported by LED flash for low light photography. The rear camera can record 720p HD videos. Front camera is equally uninteresting with a VGA sensor and will suffice for basic video calling.
The Internal storage is again standard 4 GB. You get the option to expand it further with 32 GB of microSD secondary storage. The storage is the most you can expect at this price range.
PROCESSOR AND BATTERY
The processor used is Dual core MT6572, from MediaTek, which can be found in most other present generation dual core smartphones. Both cores are clocked at 1.3 GHz and are paired with Mali 400 GPU and 512 MB RAM. The chipset is meant for basic usage which includes basic social media apps and some light gaming.
The battery capacity is 2500 mAh. Micromax claims 260 hours of standby time and 9 hours of talk time from this device. We are not sure how long this will last while web browsing or playing videos as the massive 6 inch display is expected to heavily tax it.
DISPLAY
The display is 6 inches in size and features 854 x 480 pixels. The dismal pixel density of 163 ppi implies that your display will be soft with visible pixilation. Incase this is your first smartphone and you might find the display quite usable.
MORE
The phone runs on Android 4.2.2 jelly bean operating system which will offer rich access to android eco system. Like all other Canvas series smartphones, you will get dual SIM dual Standby connectivity. What is missing, is the Capacitive stylus which has been a distinguishing feature of Canvas Doodle Series
PRICE
Micromax has made some grave compromises to cut the cost. Doodle brand was evolving towards a high end product with doodle 2 and we would have liked to see the series evolve further towards a high end 6 inch phablet with Octa core CPU. The Phone has been priced at Rs. 8,500 and in case you are looking for that extra extra large display in low cost price range, you could go for doodle 3 at the cost of user experience. To further sweeten the pot, Micromax is also offering free magnetic flip cover and 6 month subscription for BigFlix.

Micromax Canvas 4 unboxing and review

Micromax Canvas 4 or Micromax A210 supports dual SIM, runs on Android 4.2 with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage. It is powered by MT6589 quad core processor clocked at 1.2GHz with PowerVR SGX 544 GPU. The handset is priced from Rs. 13,500 to Rs. 14,500

Canvas 4 box pack
A210 comes within a unique box pack. The handset is clearly visible and looks more appealing as long as it’s inside the box. The box pack contains, the Micromax Canvas 4 handset, weird flip cover, user manual, earphone, data cable and power adapter
 Design and first Impression
Users were expecting a lot from the Micromax Canvas 4 but the price and features came as a big disappointment. The A210 comes with same hardware that powered the Micromax A116. I have used the Micromax Canvas HD or A116 and I was not at all impressed considering the price tag. The grey color model probably would have looked even better.

The dual SIM white (silver texture) colored handset looks good, with good built quality and finishing, however having used the A116 I really did not find it appealing for its price. I would still vote for the Micromax A116. I believe it should have been priced at Rs. 1000 – 1500 extra as compared with A116 more that that it’s really not worth it. Those who have not used the A116 or have not felt the A116 will be impressed with A210.

The flip cover is weird, check the image below it is transparent and also works without (i.e. with the cover closed – you can view the content without flipping). Many users had complained that the flip cover was damaging the screen (causing scratches), I now know why. Generally the inner part of the flip cover that comes in contact with the screen is made of smooth soft material, however in this case it’s not so.

Display, Memory and OS
The screen is 5 inches supporting HD resolution (1280×720 pixels) with corning gorilla glass protection. The color reproduction is good but felt it similar to as seen on MMX A116. Touch is smooth and responsive.

RAM is 1GB and of the 16GB storage 2.2 GB is free – assigned for apps and 10GB as internal storage. There is Micro SD card support too. I tried connecting pen drive using OTG cable and that worked. OTG is supported on Canvas 4. This handset runs on Android 4.2 OS

You can record and play full HD videos. Sound is loud and clear. The battery is of 2000 mAh capacity I guess should easily last for over a day with moderate usage.
